President’s Corner
by Terry Witcher

The Spirit of Pinion continued to cast a spell on our community,
friends and family through 2009. I hope that everyone will keep the
spirit going in 2010 by putting on your Irish green attire and join
us at Briny’s on March 10th. Don’t forget the Broward
County Special Olympics Summer Games will be held on March 6th
this year. If you have never attended the Summer Games, I encourage
you to do so. It is a wonderful heartfelt experience.
I would like to reflect back on 2009 and say thank
you to everyone that made Pinion’s Holiday by Design fundraiser a
successful event at DCOTA. Special thanks to Ellen Kann at Baker,
Knapp & Tubbs Furniture Showroom for graciously hosting our event.
All of this would not have been possible without the support from
all our Board Members, Sponsors, silent auction donations,
Volunteers, and our Membership. I would like to say thank you to
all the Pinion Board Members for their teamwork, endless hours of
time and energy to make this all happen.
Once again this year, Pinion went Christmas
shopping for the residents of the Victory Living Programs and
arranged a special Christmas Party with Santa. Thanks to Sonja Mayo
and her committee for organizing this special day. Seeing the
residents open up their gifts from Santa fills your heart with the
true meaning of the Christmas Spirit. On behalf of Pinion and Bobbi
Wigand of Victory Living Programs, we would like to give a special
thank you to one of our Pinion members, Ed Bestoso, for your
gracious gift of turkeys to all the residents and staff at the
Victory Living Program.
As a reminder, please mark your calendars for this
years’ American Cancer Society - Woman of the Year Luncheon April 7th
honoring Linda Spaulding White of Pinion. This year the
luncheon will be held again at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort.
The date for Pinion’s end of year luncheon has yet
to be determined. So stay tuned, more information will be
forthcoming. By now you should have already received your Pinion
Directory, but if for some reason you didn’t receive one, please let
us know.
In closing, may the Spirit of Pinion cast a spell
on others, so that we may keep “inspiring greatness” in our special
athletes.
With Warmest Regards,
Terry Witcher
