Linda Spaulding White
Woman of the year 2010

Linda Spaulding White, known to her family
and friends as “Linda Rae,” was born in Columbus, Ohio to Norman
and Kay Spaulding. She is the middle of three girls and considers
her sisters, Laura and Lisa, two of her best friends. When Linda
Rae was 9, the family moved to South Florida, where she has built
a successful life and career based on a love of the arts, law and
giving back to others. Linda Rae earned a voice performance degree
and a Juris Doctorate from Florida State University. The young
lawyer began her career in Fort Lauderdale with Brinkley, McNerney
& Morgan and then spent 18 years with Conrad & Scherer, the
majority of which as a partner. In 2006, she joined the statewide
law firm Broad and Cassel, where she practices appellate, real
estate and commercial litigation, construction law and commercial
transactions. Since high school, Linda Rae has been a passionate
volunteer, especially when it comes to helping people with
disabilities. She discovered a perfect fit when her dear friend,
Teresa Plotkin, introduced her to Pinion, a support and
fundraising organization for Special Olympics Broward County. She
became involved and then joined the board in 2002. Since then, she
co-chaired the Holiday Event for two years, served on numerous
committees and served as vice president of the newsletter,
treasurer and president. Volunteering at the SOBC Summer Games and
seeing the challenged and determined athletes compete just warms
her heart and brings tears to her eyes. Linda Rae supports many
other organizations including Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale,
Entourage, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Fort Lauderdale, FSU and
1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer. In 1999, she was a Cystic Fibrosis
Fort Lauderdale’s Finest Honoree. In her spare time, Linda Rae
enjoys fishing and other sports. She met her loving husband,
Tripper, in Bimini 13 years ago during a Lauderdale Yacht Club
fishing tournament. She was only the fifth woman member of the
Club and the first woman to enter a boat in the tournament. She
thanks Tripper for his patience and support and her stepson,
Carter, who has brought so much joy to their lives. Extremely
honored to be chosen by Pinion as its 2010 WOY honoree, Linda Rae
would like to dedicate this award to her mother, who lost her four
year battle to pancreatic cancer in 2001. Linda Rae is deeply
grateful to her wonderful liaison and sister, Laura, and her five
fabulous hostesses – Kelli, Sandy, Terry, Vanessa and Wendy for
their time and support in making this day so special and
memorable.
